Glimpses of Tonglu

Tonglu is a tiny hamlet of just two families and few huts , at an elevation of3036 meters or 9961 ft , in the Darjeeling district, near Indo - Nepal border and Singalila National Park. Those two families are there to take care of one trekkers hut, one VIP bungalow , two huts and one home stay for the tourists and trekkers and to arrange food for them. Deep blue sky coverage on the top , snow capped mountain peaks on entire northern horizons , golf course like green grass covered valley everywhere , simplicity and social pollution free warm behavior of the locals explains my recurrent visits to Tonglu , since my student life.

When to go Tonglu : Throughout the year, occasional visitors should avoid monsoon months. But those who goes to the Himalayas frequently will enjoy rainy season in Tonglu too. Best time to visit though late October to mid February. Sky remains ultra clear to provide day long view of mighty Kanchenjunga.

How to reach Tonglu: Two starting points are there, Manebhanjan and Dhotrey respectively. From Manebhanjan it is a day long trek of 14 km which can be covered by hiring Land rover as well. From Dhotrey it is 5 km trek which can be easily covered in 3 hours . No motorable road is there from Dhotrey, trek is the only option. Sharing some of my frames taken at Tonglu round the year. To know more about Tonglu , dont hesitare to mail me.
